Fated to the Alpha’s Redemption

Chapter 2

When I awoke, Alpha Kelvin was sitting by my hospital bed, his eyes slightly bloodshot, his broad shoulders casting a shadow over me. His commanding aura filled the room, making it hard to breathe.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” His voice was low, the alpha tone sharp and cutting.

“Why didn’t you tell me that Aunt Athena had an accident?”

Telling him wouldn’t change anything. She was gone, her scent lingering only in memory. The Shadow Moon Pack had lost one of its pillars, and nothing I said could bring her back.

The next time we met, I craved his closeness, but my heart was so shattered, I couldn’t bear to look at him. My wolf whimpered softly in the back of my mind, a faint echo of the bond that once tied us together.

I remembered how, in the past, when he worked late in his study, I’d settle onto his lap, wrapping my arms around him playfully. “Come on, it’s late. You should come to bed and keep me company!” His wolfish grin would appear, and he’d nuzzle against my neck, his scent—a mix of cedar and moonlight—wrapping around me.

“Just let me finish this up. It’s really late; you should go to sleep first, or you’ll blame me for your bad skin tomorrow,” he’d say, his voice teasing but warm.

He’d chuckle softly at the end, and my cheeks would flush. It was always like this with him—pretending to be annoyed, while all I wanted was to binge-watch shows. Even when he suggested saving it for tomorrow, I refused.

He never could argue me out of it, so he’d let me lean against him as I watched, his strong arms encircling me. We’d both lose track of time, and the next morning, he’d be late for pack meetings.

The sweet love we once shared seemed to vanish overnight, leaving only the hollow ache of what was lost.

Now, his words were just noise in the background, his alpha tone grating against my fragile state. I studied his eyes, trying to find traces of the man I once loved.

I couldn’t.

I slowly turned my gaze away, avoiding looking at him any longer. With Mom gone, I felt like my place in his life had vanished too. I was nothing more than an Omega now, a shadow of the Luna I used to be.

I hadn’t expected how my silence would trigger his anger.

“Marilyn!” His voice boomed, the alpha tone sharp enough to make me flinch. “Can’t you say something? Are you mute? I didn’t keep you around just to sulk and give me attitude.”

“Not anymore,” I whispered, my voice barely audible.

“What did you say?” Kelvin’s voice was as cold as a winter wind. “Try saying that again.”

I turned my head, refusing to look at him, my wolf curling into itself, unable to face his dominance.

The next time we crossed paths, it was at a pack gathering at the Moonlit Bar. I didn’t want him to see me so broken, desperately trying to make myself invisible among the crowd.

To my surprise, he reached out and pulled me aside, his grip firm and unyielding. For a moment, I thought he still cared, but then he shattered that illusion.

He said he wanted me to be his mistress.

With disbelief in my eyes, he laughed mockingly, “You didn’t think I still loved you, did you?”

“I thought of you for a while, but given my status now, I can have any she-wolf I want.”

“It doesn’t matter if you agree or not; I have ways to make you comply.”

I stared at his handsome face, his features so perfectly chiseled—those were once the lines and shapes I loved most. His broad frame, his commanding presence, everything about him screamed Alpha. Yet he felt so unfamiliar I could hardly recognize him.

I tried to speak, to ask him not to humiliate me like this. But I forgot.

Alpha Kelvin never gave in to threats.

In the past, he’d let me have my way because he loved me.

Now, to him, I was nothing more than a former Luna who abandoned him in his darkest hour.

I agreed, but I had one condition.

“What condition?” His tone was sharp, his eyes narrowing.

“You need to give me two hundred thousand dollars a month. I’m sure that’s nothing to a man of your wealth now, Alpha Jones.”

The look he gave me then was so foreign it frightened me. Yet he agreed, his alpha aura pressing down on me like a weight.

I moved into his mansion, but he only came back once a week. I felt a mix of relief and disappointment. In the three years we were apart, I thought of him constantly. Now, seeing him again, I feared he’d hate me for leaving him.

The next time he came home, he brought another she-wolf. When I saw them, they were in the hallway, locked in an embrace, kissing passionately. I froze, unsure of how to react. Alpha Kelvin saw me but chose to ignore me, leading the woman upstairs.

I didn’t sleep for the following nights, my wolf restless and aching. Eventually, it became too much, and I went to the pack healer for a check-up.

The healer suggested I see a pack psychiatrist. I left with the diagnosis slip in hand.

Severe depression.

The healer said I should have come in three years ago; I shouldn’t have waited so long. I knew it started that night, three years ago—the night I broke the mate bond with Alpha Kelvin.
