My Alpha Sacrificed Our Pup to Protect His Mistress

My Alpha Sacrificed Our Pup to Protect His Mistress

When her fated mate, a powerful alpha wolf, sacrifices their own pup to shield his mistress, her world shatters. Can a grieving mother ever forgive this ultimate betrayal, or will she reject their bond forever?

Chapter 1

The guest wing of the Pack House felt like a prison. Four walls of sterile white, a narrow bed with sheets that never quite warmed, and a window that offered the only glimpse of the outside world. I sat curled in the window seat, my fingers tracing the cold glass as I watched the scene below.

Graham stood in the garden, his broad shoulders and commanding presence unmistakable even from this distance. He held a bouquet of crimson roses—my favorite, once upon a time. But they weren't for me.

"More flowers for your precious Jade," I whispered, my breath fogging the glass. "While I get cold soup and stale bread."

My body still ached from the miscarriage. Eight months pregnant one day, empty and bleeding the next. The Pack Healer had said it was a common tragedy, that sometimes pups just didn't survive. But something in Dr. Cross's eyes had seemed... guilty.

I pressed my palm against my flat stomach, feeling the phantom pain that never quite faded. "I'm sorry, little one. I couldn't protect you."

A knock at the door interrupted my thoughts. An Omega named Tessa entered without waiting for permission, carrying a tray with limp vegetables and what looked like yesterday's bread.

"Luna," she said, not meeting my eyes as she set the tray down. "Your dinner."

"Thank you," I replied automatically, though we both knew I wasn't really their Luna anymore. Not since the pup died. Not since Graham had barely visited, claiming he was "too busy with pack affairs."

Tessa hesitated at the door. "Alpha Graham says you're to rest. No visitors."

Of course he did. Isolation was another form of control.

After she left, I forced myself to eat a few bites, though the food tasted like ash. My wolf, Celeste, had been silent since we lost the pup. I couldn't blame her. What kind of Luna couldn't protect her own child?

---

Three days later, I decided I couldn't bear another moment of staring at these walls. The library was just down the hall—maybe some distraction would help.

I limped down the corridor, still favoring my right side where Graham had... No. Don't think about that.

Halfway to the library, a sudden sharp pain lanced through my head. I gasped, steadying myself against the wall. These headaches had started after the miscarriage, Dr. Cross said they were normal. Part of grieving.

But this felt different. Like something was trying to push through.

And then, voices filled my mind.

"—couldn't risk Jade facing the Council." Graham's voice, unmistakable even in the pack mind-link. "The border breach was bad enough without adding injury to it."

"But Alpha," Beta Marcus sounded tense, "if you had called Dr. Cross sooner for Luna Serena—"

"I know what I did!" Graham snapped. "If I had called for the Healer immediately, they would have seen Jade's injury. Asked questions. The pup was a necessary sacrifice to keep the Alpha line scandal-free."

My blood turned to ice. Sacrifice. Our child had been a sacrifice.

"You're telling me," Marcus continued carefully, "that you delayed medical attention for your pregnant mate to protect Jade from consequences for violating pack territory?"

"Jade couldn't handle the pack's judgment," Graham's voice softened with something that might have been love. "She's fragile. Serena is stronger. It was the only way."

The mind-link wavered, then cut off abruptly, leaving me gasping in the empty hallway. My legs gave out, and I slid to the floor, clutching my knees to my chest.

It wasn't an accident. It wasn't fate or bad luck or the Moon Goddess's will.

Graham had killed our pup to protect Jade.

---

Back in my room, I moved with new purpose. Gone was the grief-stricken Luna who had accepted her fate. In her place stood someone harder, colder.

I knelt beside the bed and pried up the loose floorboard I'd discovered weeks ago. Beneath it lay a small phone—not connected to the pack network, not tracked by Graham's surveillance.

My fingers trembled as I dialed the number I had memorized long ago.

One ring. Two.

"Srna?" The voice was deep, accented, instantly recognizable. Alpha Jasper of the Parisian Lycan Clan. My childhood friend. The one person who had never looked at me with pity.

"He killed our pup," I said, my voice steady despite everything.

A sharp intake of breath. Then: "Tell me everything."

"No time," I replied. "I need sanctuary."

Without hesitation: "Extraction protocol initiated. Twenty-four hours."

As I replaced the phone and the floorboard, a strange calm settled over me. For the first time since losing the pup, I felt something other than grief.

I felt free.
