Alpha's Deceit, Luna's Wrath

When Luna Elara uncovers that her fated mate, Alpha Julian, is behind her family’s disappearance, her loyalty turns to rebellion. Refusing to be a submissive pawn, this fierce female werewolf rises to expose his lies and reclaim her legacy.

Chapter 3

The whispers started three days after the Council investigations began.

I noticed them during my morning review of territorial reports—pack members clustering in hallways, conversations dying when I passed. My wolf stirred uneasily, sensing the shift in pack dynamics even as my analytical mind cataloged each subtle change. Thomas was making his move.

Melanie appeared at the Alpha family breakfast table on Thursday morning.

She wore a cream silk blouse that emphasized her growing belly, her jasmine-honey scent filling the formal dining room. Thomas pulled out the chair to his right—my traditional seat during pack leadership meetings—and guided her into it with careful tenderness. Marcus stared at his plate, his teenage discomfort palpable.

"Melanie will be joining us for pack business discussions," Thomas announced, his tone carrying that Alpha finality that discouraged questions. "Her insights into pack morale have proven valuable."

Beta Anthony Miller's fork paused halfway to his mouth. His expression remained professionally neutral, but I caught the tightness around his eyes, the way his jaw worked as he processed this public display. An Omega at the leadership table. Thomas might as well have announced his mistress to the entire pack hierarchy.

I sipped my coffee, saying nothing. Let him play his hand.

By afternoon, the entire pack house buzzed with the news. Melanie had been moved from the servants' quarters to the east wing guest suite—the one reserved for visiting dignitaries. She now attended Gamma briefings and sat in on territorial planning sessions. Pack members who'd known her as the caretaker who cleaned their children's scraped knees now watched her give input on border patrol rotations.

The disrespect was deliberate, calculated. Thomas was establishing his chosen mate's status while I still wore the Luna title, forcing the pack to accept this bizarre hierarchy he'd invented. And every whispered conversation, every uncomfortable glance, reminded me exactly how far he'd fallen from the Alpha I'd once loved.

Anthony found me in my office that evening, his Beta protocol perfect even as concern flickered across his weathered features. "Luna, I wanted to discuss the upcoming Council review—"

"You wanted to discuss Thomas's judgment," I corrected gently. "You're wondering if I know what he's doing."

He clasped his hands behind his back, that familiar gesture of restrained opinion. "It's... irregular. The pack is confused about status protocols. Some members are asking questions I don't have answers for."

"Tell them their Alpha is establishing a chosen mate arrangement." I kept my voice level, watching Anthony's careful mask crack slightly. "It's his right, isn't it?"

"Technically." The word came reluctantly. "But the timing, with the territorial investigations and Council scrutiny... Diana, his decisions are affecting pack stability."

I appreciated that he still used my name in private, still recognized me as more than just the Luna being publicly humiliated. "I'm aware, Anthony. Thank you for your concern."

He left looking more troubled than when he'd arrived. Good. Let the loyal Beta witness exactly what his Alpha's selfishness cost.

The Moonstone Alliance gathering happened on a perfect autumn evening, the kind of diplomatic event I'd once loved organizing. Now I moved through it like a chess master positioning pieces, my Luna smile perfect while I planted carefully calibrated bombs.

"Such a shame about Silvermoon's territorial complications," I murmured to Alpha Frederick of Crescent Moon, whose pack bordered Thomas's eastern claims. "The Council takes violations quite seriously these days. I'd hate to see any pack's reputation damaged by association."

Frederick's expression sharpened with understanding. "Association?"

"Well, packs that have alliance agreements with territories under investigation..." I let the implication hang delicately between us. "My father always said Council scrutiny spreads like wildfire. One never knows who might get caught in the flames."

I had similar conversations throughout the evening, never quite asking for anything, simply expressing gentle concern. Alpha Victoria of Willowbrook, whose trade routes ran through disputed Silvermoon lands. Beta Samuel of Riverstone, whose daughter had been considering a match with one of Thomas's warriors. Each conversation planted seeds of doubt, wrapped in my Alpha-born diplomatic elegance.

By midnight, I'd secured what I needed—not promises, but fear. Fear that supporting Silvermoon might damage their own Council standings.

Thomas's summons came through our mate bond the next morning, sharp and commanding.

*"My office. Now."*

I found him pacing behind his desk, territorial maps scattered across every surface. The eastern border disputes had spread to three neighboring packs now, each claiming violations that threatened Silvermoon's holdings. His expression darkened when I entered.

"Close the door."

I obeyed, moving with deliberate calm to the chair across from his desk. He remained standing, using height to establish dominance. Old tactics that once might have worked on the submissive Luna I'd been.

"The Council investigations are escalating," he said, his Alpha tone carrying warning. "Redwood Pack is demanding territory returns. Crescent Moon just withdrew their trade alliance. Even Moonstone is making noises about reviewing our agreements."

"I've heard."

His hands slammed onto the desk. "Then use your goddamn connections to fix this! Your father's bloodline opens every door in the Council. One word from you could end these investigations."

I met his gaze steadily. "Why would I do that?"

The question hung between us like a blade. Thomas's expression shifted from command to disbelief. "Because you're my Luna. Because this pack's survival depends on those alliances. Because—"

"Because you deserve my loyalty?" My voice stayed perfectly level. "After you fucked our Omega for eight months? After you moved your pregnant mistress into my pack house? After you demanded I accept being second place to a wolf who used to clean our floors?"

His Alpha aura flared, that commanding presence he'd used to control pack dynamics for years. The mate bond thrummed with his will, trying to impose obedience through our connection.

*"I am your Alpha. You will do as I command."*

Something ancient and powerful rose from the depths of my suppressed soul. My wolf, dormant for fifteen years beneath my Luna role, surged forward with crystalline fury. The Alpha bloodline I'd inherited from my father—the power I'd buried to be Thomas's perfect mate—exploded through every cell.

My aura met his like a tidal wave crashing against a cliff.

The air in the office thickened with competing dominance. Thomas's eyes widened as golden light flickered in my gaze—the unmistakable sign of Alpha power awakening. His commanding presence wavered, hitting the wall of my reclaimed strength and shattering against it.

"I am not just your Luna," I said softly, my voice carrying an authority that made him take an involuntary step back. "I am the daughter of an Alpha King. I suppressed my power for you. I became small so you could feel big. But you threw that sacrifice away the moment you touched her."

Thomas's face went pale. In fifteen years of marriage, he'd never felt the full force of my Alpha nature. He'd grown so comfortable with my submission that he'd forgotten what I truly was.

"Diana—"

"The territorial investigations will continue," I continued, my tone ice-cold and final. "The Council reviews will proceed. And you will face the consequences of your illegal expansion without my father's connections protecting you."

I stood, my awakened aura filling the room like a thunderstorm. "You wanted to know everyone's place? Now you know mine. And Thomas?" I paused at the door, letting him see the full measure of what he'd lost. "It was never beneath yours."

I left him standing in his office, surrounded by maps of territories he was about to lose, finally understanding that his perfect Luna had been a sleeping dragon all along.
